Man charged in connection with child’s death in Worcester – Boston News, Weather, Sports

WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) – A 34-year-old man is charged in connection with the death of a child Tuesday in Worcester, according to court documents.

Around 4:30 p.m., police responded to an apartment at 11 Sever St. for a report of a 4-year-old child who had fallen to the floor and was unresponsive, Worcester police said in a report. Francisco Ortiz, the only adult in the home, told police the child fell off the kitchen table, police said.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the child, who was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial Medical Center, police said.

An autopsy Wednesday revealed the child had a fractured skull on the top of his head, which police said was consistent with a fall from two stories.

Ortiz is charged with assault on a child causing substantial bodily harm, aiding and abetting substantial bodily harm on a child, assault, two counts of assault on a child and recklessly endangering a child, court documents say.
