Chicopee Police are investigating a series of recent vehicle break-ins

CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Police in Chicopee are warning people about a series of vehicle break-ins in the city in recent weeks.

Thirteen recent vehicle break-ins in the city are under investigation. Six of these occurred in the Chicopee Center area and seven in the Chicopee Falls area. Chicopee Police Officer Travis Odiorne told Western Mass News that no specific person or group has yet been blamed.

“We are seeing an increase in people walking through neighborhoods at night just looking into cars pulling door handles,” Odiorne explained.

Odiorne said the suspects don’t necessarily break windows, but rather get into unlocked cars and take whatever they can.

“Given the surge we have seen recently, there will be some cars driving around these areas, a few marked cars and unmarked cars,” Odiorne added.

Chicopee Police are reminding residents to lock their cars at night and anyone with information or security camera footage of these break-ins should contact them immediately.
