The manga that started the story of Attack on Titan

Eren Jaegar is an example of someone who reacts uniquely to a situation. In Before the fallwhich takes place approximately 50 years before the events of Attack on Titananother boy, Kuklow, faces a similar dilemma: lack of freedom because of The Walls.

As the Survey Corps struggles to regain morale and increase the number of Titan worshipers, the citizens of Shiganshina live in fear. But a small group builds a special device that allows the user to maneuver and kill Titans. Although the people behind The Walls live in a false paradise, they can only predict when they will no longer be able to support humanity.

The Titan’s son

Kuklow, the main character, is descended from a Titan worshiper who went mad after her husband was murdered by a Titan called the Ogre. After she is eaten late in her pregnancy, a child is born from her corpse. From then on, the citizens refer to him as the “Child of the Titan” and keep him prisoner, passing Kuklow from merchant to merchant. Eventually he ends up in the care of a noble family, whose son often “practices” fighting titans with him. One might think that this would lead to Kuklow developing hatred for those around him, but a lonely girl, his owner’s daughter Sharle, teaches him the concepts of kindness and patience. The two would later escape when the noble family is attacked.

Eren looks at what is missing in his life and tries to fill the void, always wanting more. Kuklow, on the other hand, looks at the potential for how things can be even bigger than they are. In other words: one person sees the glass half empty, the other sees the glass half full and both want to fill it up. Basically, he’s still stubborn and ignores Sharle’s protests for his safety.

The love interest

Sharle also plays an important role as she is the one who saved Kuklow from his captors, just as Eren saved Mikasa. In both cases it was a knife. Furthermore, her desire to protect him from danger is also reminiscent of Mikasa’s protests when Eren makes reckless decisions. And much like she joins him when he becomes a cadet, Sharle decides to become an apprentice to Xenophon, the creator of the “device,” to aid in its ideal construction. Although she’s not an “action girl” like Mikasa, she manages to act as a voice of reason for others – a reminder to Kuklow that he has a support system he can rely on and come back to.

Before the fall has a much more uplifting ending, as the main theme of the story is forgiveness and understanding on equal terms; Furthermore, Kuklow is able to marry and stay with someone he loves. It shows that improvement can be achieved as long as someone wants it. In the case of Attack on TitanPrejudice and a desire for revenge prevailed.
