Beaverton man charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse, police searching for more victims

Police are looking for other possible victims of a man accused of multiple sexual abuse crimes.

According to Beaverton police, officers arrested 37-year-old Joseph Phillip Stubbs at his home last Saturday. He is charged with six counts of first-degree sexual abuse after the allegations were brought to the attention of investigators.

According to police, he allegedly had inappropriate contact with a girl between the ages of eight and 13 who was a neighbor.

Investigators began investigating these allegations in April 2024 when Beaverton police officers responded to a report of sexual abuse at a middle school in the Beaverton School District.

After speaking with a school counselor, police also informed the girl’s parents about the abuse.

According to police, Stubbs was a neighbor of the victim at an apartment complex in south Beaverton when the abuse began

According to investigators, Stubbs became friends with the family and gained their trust while living in the same apartment complex. Stubbs also spent time at the house when the girl was there.

Investigators interviewed the victim and learned of numerous alleged inappropriate contacts between the victim and Stubbs over the past five years, with the abuse allegedly beginning when the victim was in third grade.

Stubbs is currently in custody at the Washington County Jail in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Investigators believe Stubbs may have more victims. If you or someone you know had an inappropriate interaction with Joseph Stubbs, please call Detective Tim Wilburn at 503.526.2261.
