Pop/Rock leads the entertainment offering – Times News Online

Uran Duran leads the line-up of entertainment highlights coming to local and regional venues over the next few weeks.

The pop/rock band – made up of founding members Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, as well as Roger Taylor and Simon Le Bon – will perform at the PPL Center. Duran Duran, who scored 11 Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

Other highlights include reggae acts The Legendary Wailers and Inner Circle, who perform at Penn’s Peak. Meanwhile, Wind Creek Event Center welcomes back Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Diana Ross and Rod Stewart.

• The Legendary Wailers and Inner Circle, 8 p.m., Oct. 18. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Junior Marvin of The Wailers played on five albums by reggae artist Bob Marley and the Wailers, including 1977’s “Exodus.” The latter included “Jamming” and “One Love”/”People Get Ready.” Marvin, who formed The Legendary Wailers in 2019, released his latest solo set, “Happy Family,” earlier this year. Formed in 1968, Jamaican reggae band Inner Circle scored hits in the 1990s such as the “Cops”-themed “Bad Boys” and “Sweat (A La La La La Long).”

• John Waite, 8pm, October 19. The English pop/rock singer-songwriter, a member of the rock band The Babys from 1975 to 1981, has released 10 solo studio albums. Waite’s 1984 set “No Brakes” included the hit “Missing You.” The singer recorded two albums with the rock band Bad English in the late 1980s, scoring hits with “When I See You Smile” and “Price of Love.”

• Velvet Stardust Rock Show, 8 p.m., Oct. 25. Stage Stars Productions will present the program, which pits dancers against the Velvet Stardust band in a burlesque battle.

• Grand Slambovian Halloween Ball, 8 p.m., Oct. 26. Slambovian Circus of Dreams was founded in 1998 in Sleepy Hollow, New York and plays folk, rock, Americana and psychedelic music. The band released their latest album “A Very Unusual Head” in 2022.

• Elliott Bild Quartet, 7 p.m., October 18. Bild, a Philadelphia-based trumpeter and composer, will perform with Adam Niewood, Justin Sekelewski and Corey Garcia. Bild will release “Sound Picture,” his second album with The Zone, later this month.

• Dan Wilkins Quartet, 7 p.m., October 25. Wilkins, a saxophonist and composer from the Emmaus/Macungie region, leads the Horizons Quartet. The latter also stars Gene Perla, Byron Landham and James Collins. Wilkins, who has recorded albums with father Skip and various ensembles, released his latest album, “Moonglow,” earlier this year.

• Witch, please! Oct. 19, 4 p.m. “Hocus Pocus” from 1993 and “Teen Witch” from 1989 will be shown in the cinema. The Halloween-themed event also includes a pumpkin egg hunt, jack-o-lantern carving contest, costume contest, scavenger hunt and vendor market.

• “Fright Night,” 5 p.m., Oct. 27. The theater, in collaboration with Exhumed Films, will conclude its 2024 season with a screening of 1985’s “Fright Night.” Stars William Ragsdale and Stephen Geoffreys, who played Charley Brewster and Edward “Evil Ed” Thompson respectively, will be in attendance. There will be a bonfire following the performance.

• Duran Duran, 7:30 p.m., October 21. The English pop/rock band, formed in 1978, released their debut studio album in 1981. Duran Duran’s hit singles include “Hungry Like the Wolf”, “Rio” and “A View to”. a Kill,” “Notorious,” and “Ordinary World.” Duran Duran released his 16th studio album “Danse Macabre” in 2023.

• Godsmack, 7 p.m., October 25. The rock band, founded in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1995, released their eighth studio album “Lighting Up the Sky” in 2023. The band has 13 No. 1s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock charts, including “Straight Out of Line” and “Speak” and two, “Surrender” and “Truth,” from their latest album.

• Diana Ross, 8 p.m., October 18. Ross was born in Detroit and was successful as the lead singer of the Supremes from 1963 to 1970 before starting a solo career. The Supremes’ hits include “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Stop!” In the Name of Love”; Ross’ solo hits include “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Upside Down.” Ross’ 25th solo album “Thank You” was released in 2021.

• Marlon Wayans, 8 p.m., October 19. The actor, producer, comedian, writer and director was born in New York City, the youngest of ten siblings, and starred alongside his brother Shawn in the 1990s sitcom The Wayans Brothers. Wayans, whose filmography includes 2000’s “Scary Movie” and 2004’s “White Chicks,” has appeared in four comedy specials, including the most recent, “Good Grief.”

• Rod Stewart, October 23, 8 p.m. The English singer-songwriter, a member of Faces from 1969 to 1975, has released over 30 studio albums, including five The Great American Songbook sets. Stewart’s list of 16 top 10 singles on the Hot 100 includes “Maggie May,” “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” and “Young Turks.”

• Billy Ocean and the Pointer Sisters, 8 p.m., Oct. 24. Ocean, a British singer-songwriter, composed 1980s hits such as “Caribbean Queen” and “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car.” The Pointer Sisters formed in Oakland, California in the early 1970s and scored hits such as “Fire,” “He’s So Shy” and “I’m So Excited.” The group now includes original member Ruth Pointer, daughter Issa and granddaughter Sadako.

• Needtobreathe, 7 p.m., October 20. The Christian rock band, founded in Seneca, South Carolina in 2001, scored a hit single in 2009 with “Brother” featuring Gavin DeGraw. Needtobreathe released his ninth studio album “Caves” in 2023.

• “Whose Life Anyway?” Oct. 26, 7:30 p.m. Current cast members of the long-running TV series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” will perform improvisational comedy and audience-suggested songs. The show features improvisation games from the series as well as new ones.

• “Haunted Illusions,” 4 p.m., Oct. 27. David Caserta will perform magic and comedy.

• Anthony Rodia, 8 p.m., October 18. Rodia is from New York and became a full-time stand-up comedian in 2019. The comedian, whose characters include Uncle Vinny and Zia Lucia, co-hosts the weekly podcast Little Bit of. Laughs” with Goumba Johnny.

• Lovelytheband and Mod Sun, 7:00 p.m., October 25th. The alternative rock/indie pop act Lovelytheband, founded in Los Angeles in 2016, landed a top 30 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Broken.” The group’s fourth studio album was released in August. Minnesota-born Mod Sun released his debut album “Look Up” in 2015 and his fifth studio album “God Save the Teen” will be released in 2023.

Duran Duran is coming to the PPL Center in Allentown on October 21st.
