The busy night sky tonight will provide a spectacle for Coastal Bend stargazers

Super Hunter Moon
If you’ve scrolled through the Coastal Bend Weather Watchers Facebook group, you’ve seen photos of October’s full moon, known as the “Hunter Moon.” This is not the “Harvest Moon” (the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox), as this was the full moon in September. It is the third of four consecutive supermoons of the year and the brightest. While it peaked on Thursday morning, it will continue to appear full in the night sky tonight into Friday morning. The next full moon will be on November 15th.

Comets
We told you about comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) for the first time on October 1st. Time to catch A3 is running out, but you can also catch another new comet Comet C/2024 A1 (ATLAS).
But don’t get your hopes up…it might not survive its journey to heaven.

Meteor shower
The Orionid meteor shower (meteors from the Orion constellation) will peak this evening over the weekend.

These features may be difficult to see during a bright full moon, but you may have luck when the moon is close to the horizon at dawn and dusk.
