Several people are believed to have died in a house fire in Kentucky.

Firefighters were called to the home on Fifth Street in Carrollton early Thursday morning.

The house was completely engulfed in flames and has since collapsed.

According to the fire department, a toddler was rescued and taken to the hospital. The little girl had collapsed near a door at the back of the house.

According to an investigator, up to six people lived in the home, including other children. He said it might be evening before they could get into the remains.

Six hours after firefighters arrived, the house was still covered in smoke.

As of midday, firefighters were still trying to put out a fire that reportedly came from the home’s basement. According to officials, the area is not expected to cool down until the evening.

An excavator and his crew were seen digging through the rubble.
