Man arrested for stabbing 19-year-old victim outside New York State Municipal Court building

A 41-year-old ex-con from the Upper West Side was arrested for a knife attack on a 19-year-old victim who was waiting to pay a summons outside the New York State Municipal Court building in downtown Manhattan.

The victim, identified as Alan Ryvikin, said he was stabbed from behind just below the neck just before noon on Oct. 16.

Marvin Dupree, 41, who police said lived at 562 W. 143rd St., was arrested later that day and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. The victim lost a lot of blood, but court officials quickly called emergency medical services, who took him to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was stable and he was subsequently released.

The victim told NBC News that he needed eight stitches to close the wound.

The attack appears to have been completely random as the alleged attacker said nothing before or after the attack. “As he walked away, the guy looked at me and smiled with the knife in his hand,” Ryvikin said New York Post from Bellevue Hospital..

The attack occurred 500 feet from NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza, which is west of the city subpoena court building where the random attack occurred.

The Daily News reported that the alleged attacker was paroled in November 2019 after serving a nearly four-year prison sentence for drug trafficking. He reportedly had two previous convictions for drug trafficking and drug possession.
