“This would be a catastrophic development and a complete rejection of the existing postulates in the field of nuclear safety.”

Russia has already warned Israel about the hypothetical possibility of an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said it was catastrophic, the state news agency TASS reported on Thursday.

“We have repeatedly warned (Israel) and continue to warn against even hypothetically considering the possibility of an attack on (Iran’s) nuclear facilities and nuclear infrastructure,” the senior diplomat was quoted as telling reporters.

“This would be a catastrophic development and a complete rejection of the existing postulates in the field of nuclear safety,” he added.

Israeli media reported that the military was planning a “large and serious retaliation” against Iran after it launched a ballistic missile attack on October 1 that hit dozens of targets.

“Reluctance to exercise”

The attacks were in retaliation for the assassinations of senior Hamas, Hezbollah and IRGC officials, including Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah.

Ryabkov told TASS said a few days ago that Moscow was “following events in the Middle East closely and with concern” and said: “The risk of a large-scale conflict is indeed high.”

“The tendency to escalate into a full-scale conflict is a real danger. We call on all parties to exercise restraint. We are in intensive dialogue with the countries in the region. And again: a major war can be avoided, but everyone must show restraint,” said the deputy minister.

“Preparation for the strike”

In an Oct. 5 report, Israeli Army Radio quoted a military source as saying that “the army is spending most of its time preparing for this attack” and stressed that Israel’s response to Tehran will be forceful.

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid and other former officials have called on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to attack Iranian oil and nuclear sites.

Israel announces major offensive against Iran and is warned sharply by Tehran

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called on Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Bennet called it “a unique window of opportunity” in a Hebrew video statement. posted online, the Times of Israel reported.

Him too posted to X: “If not now, when? NOW is the time to attack the nuclear facilities and the Iranian regime.”

On October 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters at a news conference in Laos that carrying out threats to attack Tehran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in response to an Iranian missile attack on Israel would be a very serious provocation, TASS reported.
