Meta fired employees for using free meal vouchers for other purposes

By Alimat Aliyeva

Meta fired about 24 employees at its Los Angeles offices for using their $25 food vouchers to buy items like toothpaste, laundry detergent and tea. Azernews Reports.

The $1.48 trillion market cap meta-company laid off employees last week after an investigation found employees were abusing the free food system.

The fired employees include an unnamed employee with an annual salary of $400,000 who said he used his grocery vouchers to purchase household goods and products such as toothpaste and tea.

Employees who only occasionally broke the rules were reprimanded and allowed to keep their jobs, The Guardian reports.

Free meals have long been a perk of working for big tech companies. Most of the time, Meta provides free meals to employees in the cafeterias of its large offices. But small office employees receive vouchers every day that they can use to order food through delivery services.
