Freedom fighter convicted of fatal knife attack in 2012 found dead in prison

A Liberty County man serving a 25-year sentence for a 2012 stabbing was found dead in his prison over the weekend, according to reports.

Travon Walthour, who was serving a prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter in the 2012 stabbing death of Terry Floyd Jr., was reportedly killed Sunday at Hancock State Prison in east Georgia.

Walthour pleaded guilty in 2014 to voluntary manslaughter and robbery for Floyd’s 2012 death. He was charged with four counts of murder, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of robbery and two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with a failed drug deal.

Walthour was supposed to sell $600 worth of marijuana to Floyd and a friend. Walthour didn’t have the right amount, and when Floyd questioned the size and quality, Walthour and an accomplice, Jonathan Mathew Robertson, tried to run off with the money.

A scuffle ensued and Floyd pulled a knife out of his pocket. But Walthour overpowered him, took the knife and finally stabbed Floyd with it.

Robertson pleaded guilty in November 2013 and received a 10-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
