A paramedic at Temple University Hospital is in critical condition after being stabbed in North Philadelphia Thursday morning.

Philadelphia police said paramedics were transporting a man to the hospital at 22nd and Diamond streets around 6:40 a.m. when he became agitated, pulled out a knife and stabbed the paramedic. The attacker then jumped out of the ambulance they were in and fled the scene.

The person who stabbed the paramedic was quickly caught by police, who said the suspect still had the knife on him when he was arrested.

Police remain on site Thursday morning.

This is a developing story. CBS News Philadelphia will provide additional details as new information becomes available.
