Paramedic seriously injured, stabbed by patient in North Philly – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police are investigating after a first responder was stabbed while treating a person in an ambulance driving through North Philadelphia Thursday morning.

According to police, an incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in which a paramedic who was treating a man who had himself been stabbed was attacked by the person he was caring for.

Officials said the incident occurred as the ambulance was traveling in the area of ​​North 22nd Street and West Diamond Street.

The paramedic, a 40-year-old man, was stabbed twice before the attacker jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene, officials said.

However, police officials said the suspected attacker had been recaptured and was in police custody.

Police investigators were on scene after a paramedic was attacked in an ambulance in North Philadelphia Thursday morning.

The paramedic who was attacked was taken to a nearby hospital and is in critical condition, officials said.

According to the police, investigations are currently underway.

This is the second incident in less than a week in which medical personnel have been injured in Philly.

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, three nurses were struck outside Penn Presbyterian Hospital while attending to a shooting victim.

“We know that violence against health workers is reaching crisis levels. “44 percent of nurses have experienced physical violence and 68 percent have reported verbal abuse,” said Nicole Hoke, chief nursing officer at Penn Presbyterian, following the injuries to nurses there.

The suspect wanted in this case surrendered to officers on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
