Meta employees were fired for misusing meal vouchers

Meta fired about two dozen employees for abusing the meal program offered by the tech company. The affected employees used the $25 meal credit to purchase wine glasses, toothpaste, tea, laundry detergent and other food/household items, even acne pads.

When HR investigated the matter, it was discovered that some employees were sending food home on days when they did not eat at work.

It is reported that one of the fired employees earned a salary of $400,000.

Some who had only occasionally misused the loans only received a warning and not a termination.

While employees at the meta headquarters receive free food, the company’s smaller offices follow the system of giving daily credits for food orders. Food can be ordered through delivery services such as UberEats and Grubhub. Your daily allowance is $20, $25, and $25 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, respectively.

To reduce costs, Meta decided two years ago to delay the free dinner time by 30 minutes. That means the free dinner wouldn’t be available until after the last shuttle left the Silicon Valley campus. It also meant that employees lost the opportunity to carry leftover food home.

Meta recently made headlines for reportedly downsizing its WhatsApp, Instagram and Reality Labs teams, among others. The company is reportedly considering a reallocation of resources, which will include reassigning roles to employees and even moving teams to other locations.
