Los Angeles: Meta has reportedly laid off two dozen employees in Los Angeles. The reason is due to violation of the company policy regarding the use of meal tickets worth ＄25 per day. Misuse of the card involved employees using the card’s funds to purchase commodities such as laundry detergent, wine glasses, and various other household items. This contradicted the motive for why the meal tickets were issued in the first place, which was to purchase meals. Meta provided several grants for different meals of the day. There is a daily allowance of ＄20 for breakfast, ＄25 for lunch and ＄25 for dinner. Meal cards were issued in the amount of ＄25 additionally. This monetary displacement of meal allowances has been going on in the company for some time, the reports say. The company reportedly laid off those employees last week. This happened a few days before Meta announced a revamp of WhatsApp, Reality Labs Team and Instagram.

The Company has not terminated all employees found guilty of violating this Company policy. Individuals found to be violating this policy only occasionally were criticized but not fired, unlike those who repeated this activity multiple times.

This firing raises concerns about employee misconduct and non-compliance with company policies in the tech industry. Many employees pooled this money together for even larger purchases, while others still bought groceries from this card. The only difference? They had the food delivered to their home.

According to the FT report, a former Meta employee shared more about this behavior. The employee, speaking on the promise of anonymity, shared that on days when he did not eat in the office, he felt that throwing away the card was a waste of money and could be used to buy everyday necessities such as toothpaste and toothbrush in the Nearby shopping department stores such as Rite Aid.
