Liam Payne, a former member of One Direction, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne, 31, was staying at the Hotel Casa Sur Palermo with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy at the time of his death. The singer had posted updates from his trip on social media just hours before the accident. Payne gained worldwide fame as a member of One Direction, a band formed alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan on The X Factor in 2010.

Fans and stars from the music industry have expressed their sadness following the news. Harry Styles’ mother, Anne Twist, shared a touching tribute on Instagram, writing: “Just a boy…” accompanied by a heartbreaking emoji. One Direction fans responded with messages of support, with one fan writing: “He had a big heart. What a loss to those who knew and loved him.”

Colleagues from the music industry also recognized the award. Former X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary remembered Payne as “always polite, grateful and humble”. Olly Murs, another X Factor star, expressed his shock on Instagram, saying: “I’m really disappointed and devastated because his family and of course his son Bear have lost a father.”
