The victim was transported by private vehicle to South Central Regional Medical Center and police were dispatched there just before 3:45 a.m., LPD Chief Tommy Cox said.

Mapp reportedly left the apartment before officers arrived to question her, but she showed up at SCRMC later that day to receive treatment for scratches to her chest area. She was taken into custody by LPD officers at the hospital around 6 p.m. and booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center that night.

She was expected to make her first appearance in Laurel Municipal Court on Wednesday afternoon.

The two were reportedly no longer a couple but were still living together and were arguing over their living arrangements at the time of the stabbing. The victim was reportedly in stable condition at SCRMC. Mapp’s injuries were described as “minor” and there was speculation that she went to the hospital to make a claim of self-defense, sources with knowledge of the circumstances of the case said on condition of anonymity.

If convicted, Mapp faces up to 20 years in prison.

Mapp is scheduled to make his first appearance in Laurel Municipal Court on Thursday.
