Andrew Garfield was “afraid” of working with Florence Pugh

Andrew Garfield was initially “really afraid” of working with Florence Pugh.
The 41-year-old actor stars alongside 28-year-old Florence in new romantic comedy We Live in Time – but Andrew has now admitted he has some nervousness about working with the actress.
He told PEOPLE: “I was really scared. I think we were both really scared and nervous because it takes a while to get to know someone.”
“There are layers. There are defense mechanisms. I’m someone who can be quite shy and quite protective when first meeting someone and it takes a while for someone to really get to know me. But once he’s in, then there’s no getting out.”
Nevertheless, over time a strong bond developed between Andrew and Florence.
He said: “I could quickly see that I could trust her, that she wanted to have fun, that she wanted to play. And that’s like catnip to me. Someone who just wants to play around and she started taking that.” I really enjoyed that. I really enjoyed it.
Andrew and Florence presented awards at the 2023 Oscars. But the actor now admitted that they approached the responsibility in very different ways.
Andrew shared: “We just have very, very different approaches to something like that. I like knowing the structure of something and then letting go of the moment.”
“And she was much more relaxed in the flow. And I tried to make sure I took deep breaths beforehand because I can get pretty nervous and overwhelmed with things like that. And I wanted to make sure I knew the route and me.” I wanted to make sure I knew who was standing where.
