Liam Payne: Tributes are pouring in from across the music industry following his tragic death

The 31-year-old was found dead in the courtyard of the CasaSur Hotel in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires yesterday evening.

After rising to fame on The X-Factor, Liam found global fame with One Direction.

Former talent competition host Dermot O’Leary shared a black and white picture of himself and Payne with the caption: “The worst news. I remember him showing up to audition for The X Factor as a 14-year-old and blowing us away with his Sinatra singing. He just loved to sing,” he shared.

“He was always a cheerful person, had time for everyone, was polite, grateful and always humble. I send his family love and prayers.”

Jedward also paid her respects and sent her thoughts to his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shares with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.

“Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear and the entire One Direction family

RIP @LiamPayne.”

Anne Twist, mother of his bandmate Harry Styles, shared a heartbroken picture with the caption, “Just a boy…”

Meanwhile, fellow X Factor alum Olly Murs paid tribute and recalled fond memories.

“This news is devastating, I am at a loss for words. We always laughed a lot when we saw each other. Sometimes the conversations were short and sweet, but when we did, it was mostly about how awfully good his hair always looked, or about our love for Beck’s old XF days and touring together.

“Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams. It hits me hard to see his life end so young now. I am truly disappointed and devastated for his family and of course his son Bear who is losing a father. I’m thinking of her! RIP Liam.”

Singer Charlie Puth, who collaborated with Liam on his 2017 single “Bedroom Floor,” said he was in shock.

“Liam was always so nice to me. He was one of the first great artists I had the opportunity to work with. I can’t believe he’s gone.

Music giants Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music also shared their tributes.

“RIP Liam Payne, the singer-songwriter who began his career wowing stadium-sized crowds with One Direction and became more interested in bold, experimental club beats and forward-thinking bops as a solo artist,” shared an X account for Apple.

Meanwhile, streamer Spotify posted: “We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Liam Payne. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the many fans who loved and supported him.”

Liam’s death was confirmed in a police statement, with Argentina’s head of the state emergency medical system, Alberto Crescenti, telling a news channel that his death was under investigation and authorities would conduct an autopsy.

The singer was found dead just after 9pm Irish time on October 16.

Officials said he fell nearly 40 meters from a third-floor balcony, adding that his injuries were “incompatible with life.”

Police were called to the hotel by staff because they were concerned a man was behaving “erratically”.

Liam was in the South American country after traveling there to meet up with his former bandmate Niall Horan, who was playing a concert there earlier this month.

He was seen singing, dancing and enjoying the evening with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

His bandmates have not yet broken their silence about the tragedy.
