According to Sixers coach Nick Nurse, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain took a terrible fall on Wednesday night and was hospitalized for breathing difficulties.

It happened with four minutes left in Philly’s 117-95 preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets. McCain, who was selected with the 16th overall pick by the Sixers in June, tried to catch his own missed shot, but while he was in the air, his weight shifted too far behind him and he tipped backwards with an extreme crash affects the ground position.

After the fall, you can see that 20-year-old McCain was very uncomfortable. He held his chest as he turned around and seemed to be having trouble breathing. Here’s a closer look at fall.

McCain lay there for several minutes before he was helped off the ground. After the game, the Sixers said he would be evaluated by the team’s medical staff, including for a concussion.

“It was hard,” the nurse said. “He goes to the hospital to get checked. Apparently he was having trouble breathing and thought he might be running out of air. But I’m not sure about that.” [I’ve] never fully seen [a fall] Like this one before, so let’s hope he’s okay and we’ll see what the report is from the hospital.

Every time someone sees a player go down like that and then have trouble breathing, it brings to mind some pretty scary images. McCain’s situation certainly doesn’t appear to be life-threatening, and we’re hoping that going to the hospital is more of a precautionary measure.

Until then, let’s all hope the best for McCain. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
