Man is accused of fatally shooting woman at a New Jersey grocery store

A man has been arrested after he was accused of fatally shooting a woman at a Newark supermarket last month, authorities said.

According to a previous statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, officers were called to the store in the 300 block of South 7th Street on Sept. 18 for a report of shots fired.

The supermarket was not identified by investigators.

Police found 26-year-old Nakiyyah Blue of Bloomfield unresponsive inside the store and determined she had been shot multiple times, the office said.

Attempts were made to resuscitate her, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

According to a statement released by the district attorney’s office on Wednesday, detectives from the district attorney’s office task force were later able to identify Anthony Hilliard and charge him with Blue’s murder. Officials did not immediately provide information about Hillard’s age or hometown.

According to Chief Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, Hilliard was charged Oct. 3 with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Further information about the allegations was not initially available.
