Stationary pickup truck causes fatal crash on I-15 in Davis County

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, October 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 15 in Davis County.

UHP agent Tara Stump told Gephardt Daily that a male driver was struck and killed around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after exiting his pickup truck that was traveling in the southbound HOV lane near milepost 334 in Clearfield had stopped.

According to Stump, the pickup’s safety lights stopped working when the vehicle came to a stop.

Two approaching drivers swerved to avoid the truck, one to the right and the other to the left. The vehicle swerved to the left and hit the pickup driver who was standing on the side of the road.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene,” Stump said. “No further injuries were reported.”

Southbound lanes on I-15 were expected to be closed until midnight, forcing drivers to exit the highway at 700 South.
