Stabbing in New York State Municipal Court, 19-year-old victim in stable, slasher flees

A fight broke out on the line in a New York state municipal court in which a 19-year-old was stabbed while his alleged attacker fled.

Police said they were unsure of the motive or nature of the argument between two men who appeared to be standing in line at a city courthouse at 1 Center Street. The victim was there to answer an automated summons.

But suddenly there was an argument between the two and the 19-year-old man suffered stab wounds to his neck and back. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where police said his condition was stable and he was expected to survive.

His alleged attacker fled the scene toward Reade St. Police searched the area but were unable to locate him and he remains at large.

“The investigation is ongoing,” said a police spokesman. As of press time, no surveillance video of the attack had been released, although there are numerous surveillance cameras in the streets surrounding the courthouse.
