Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2024: Recreate the beauty looks

On October 15, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned to our screens after a six-year hiatus. With an outstanding array of experienced angels and models with newly grown wings, the catwalk continued the glamorous hustle and bustle of previous seasons. But for those who fondly remember the event as a fulcrum of 2000s style, it was never just about lingerie, but rather beauty.

The 2024 VS Fashion Show promised enormous talent, big eyelashes and bigger hair, probably in recognition of the “bombshell beauty” of the 21st century. Under the direction of make-up artist Diane Kendal and hairdresser Duffy, the beauty looks provided plenty of inspiration. However, after the show, many netizens took to social media to ask a question: “Where are the punctures?”

A classic blowout with a heavily flushed and highlighted complexion and a rosy glow, a staple of the brand’s previous shows and campaigns, seemed a given for the resurrected show. When Gigi Hadid opened the runway spectacle with a slicked-down bob and a moody satin lip, all bets were off. Then, legendary angel Candice Swanepoel strutted sans big girls and instead showed off her deadly face with a pulled back high ponytail. Models Anok Yai and Paloma Elsesser also rocked the elegant look.

On the makeup front, there were some, like returning angel Grace Elizabeth, whose understated look conveyed a girl-next-door charm that accentuated the models’ angelic features.

But for a more modern touch, an edgier look took over the runway: Models Alex Consani, Bella Hadid and Jasmine Tookes sported more seductive, bronzed smokey eyes and brownish nude lips.

To achieve this look, Kendal’s team applied dark brown eyeliner to the lids as a base, then topped it off with a sheer, shimmery eyeshadow to create a dewy glow.

Of course, some tousled waves hinted at the glamor of the show’s heyday – seen on Jill Kortleve, Liu Wen, Ashley Graham and Imaan Hammam.

Some have pointed out that the show has generally adhered to the “Male Gaze” ideal. However, this 2024 relaunch was about a more female-centric approach to glamor that highlighted each model’s unique beauty.
