No officers were injured in border agency-involved shooting at the Nogales border crossing

NOGALES, AZ (AZFamily/13 News) – One person was injured in a shooting involving CBP officers Wednesday afternoon, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

There were initial reports of a shooting at the DeConcini Port of Entry around 3:30 p.m., which led to an hours-long closure of that intersection.

Federal officials confirmed that no officers were injured, but one person was flown to Tucson for their injuries.

No further information about the shooting has been released, but multiple federal agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, are investigating.

The southbound lanes entering Mexico are expected to remain closed for several hours and will be rerouted to the Mariposa Port of Entry.

Northbound traffic into the U.S. will also be reduced as the investigation continues, CBP officials told Arizona’s sister station Family, 13 News.

More information about what led to the shooting is expected to be released in the coming days.
