Arrest made in mass shooting in Alabama that left four people dead and 17 injured

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – Police in Birmingham have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for other shootings in the city in connection with a mass shooting that left four people dead.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond announced that 22-year-old Damien McDaniel has been charged in the mass shooting at Birmingham’s Five Points South entertainment district and in two other shootings.

McDaniel was charged with murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the Five Points South mass shooting, as well as murder in the Sept. 19 shooting of Diontranet Brown at the 604 Bar and Lounge on 9th Street N.

According to authorities, it appears that Brown was an innocent bystander in the shooting.

On Sept. 22, Jamarcus Desean McIntrye was shot and killed in the 700 block of 81st Place South. McDaniel was charged in the shooting along with Ny’Quan Lollar, Larry Rollins Jr. and Demarco Beck.

McDaniel is the only suspect charged in all three shootings.

Rollins Jr. was also charged with heroin trafficking.

There is no bail for all charges against the four suspects.

Police said they received over 300 tips through Crime Stoppers and the BPD QR code during the investigation.

“We applaud the community for coming forward. We’ve never had so many tips before. Hats off to the community for sharing this information with us and being willing to share this information with us,” Thurmond said.

“After the horrific shooting in Five Points South, we vowed that our priority would be to find, capture and arrest every person responsible for this heinous and brazen mass shooting. We told you we would do this, and we did,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said in a statement released Wednesday.
