According to the AFR, Australia’s Star Entertainment wants to keep the Sydney casino open, but pays well

SYDNEY, Oct 17 (Reuters) – Australia’s second largest casino operator Star Entertainment (SGR.AX)opens new tab will be able to keep its struggling Sydney casino open but will be forced to pay a hefty fine, the Australian Financial Review (AFR) said in a report on Thursday.

The New South Wales state gambling regulator will keep the casino under the supervision of a government-appointed manager and fine the company “tens of millions of dollars” in a decision to be announced on Thursday, it said the AFR report without citing sources.

An investigation found the casino operator had issues with its leadership and culture and remains unable to operate its casino in Sydney.

Trading in the company’s shares has been temporarily suspended pending an announcement, the stock exchange operator said.
