Kane Coroner identifies stabbing victim – Shaw Local

The Kane County coroner’s office identified a man who was stabbed Sunday, Oct. 12, as Sunday Ogunjimi, 36, of Elgin, officials said.

Preliminary autopsy results Tuesday showed the cause of death was consistent with a stab wound, according to a news release.

Coroner Rob Russell confirmed that Ogunjimi was the victim of the stabbing for which Anderson A. Contreras, 21, of the 700 block of Dundee Avenue, Elgin, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Ogunjimi died at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where a call was made to the coroner’s office. Toxicology samples were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis, the release said.

The coroner’s office is cooperating with Elgin police in an ongoing investigation, the release said.

Contreras is being held in the Kane County Jail. He was also charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, according to a news release and court records.

Contreras was previously charged with aggravated assault in an unprovoked attack on a juvenile on Sept. 28 in St. Charles.

Contreras had been under investigation for misdemeanor domestic battery since August, when the incident occurred on Sept. 28. He is scheduled to appear in court on those charges on October 18; on Oct. 24 on murder charges; and Oct. 30 for aggravated battery charges.
