Woman convicted of sexually abusing a child

An Elgin woman has been found guilty of predatory sexual assault of a child.

Kane County Judge John Barsanti also found 37-year-old Maricela Garcia guilty of aggravated assault on a child and domestic violence, according to a press release from the Kane County Prosecutor’s Office. He issued his decision on October 3rd.

According to the charges, the sexual assault occurred between May 7 and 8, 2021. The victim was under 13 years old at the time.

According to the news release, the victim and Garcia lived in the same house.

Garcia remains free on bail as he awaits sentencing. Her next court date is November 22nd. She could be sentenced to six to 60 years in prison.

She must register as a sex offender for life.
