The Supreme Court allows the regulation limiting pollution from coal-fired power plants to remain in force

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has allowed a Biden administration decision aimed at limiting planet-warming pollution from coal-fired power plants to remain in effect as legal challenges loom. The court on Wednesday rejected a push by Republican-led states and industry groups to block the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule. A conservative justice publicly dissented and two others said they had expected challengers to win at some point, but the rule didn’t need to be blocked now. Challengers argued that the EPA had gone too far and set unattainable standards. Environmental groups said the standards were appropriate and within the agency’s legal responsibility to control harmful pollution.
