Woman dies in ATV accident in Midland

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – A Weatherford woman died in an ATV accident in north Midland just before midnight on Tuesday, October 15th.

Midland police report that the woman and another person were riding a four-wheeler ATV on an access road to a service area south of 6600 Shawnee.

According to MPD, the driver and passenger were ejected from the rolling ATV and neither driver was wearing a helmet.

The driver was driving at an unsafe speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the road safely, causing him to crash into a dirt embankment.

The driver, Samuel Merrill, 31, was taken to be treated for injuries sustained. The passenger, Emeelda Moreno, 42, was thrown about 100 feet west of the initial point of impact. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

There were no arrests.
