Asheville Police deactivate missing persons form as normal operations resume

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – Asheville Police announced they have disabled the newly created missing person report form as the department works to return to normal operations following outages in Helene.

Officials had previously asked residents to fill out a missing person report form, which Helene followed to report missing people during times of limited cell phone reception that caused communication disruptions.

Police announced Tuesday that the form had been disabled since Oct. 8 and urged residents to use previously standard procedures to report missing people or request welfare checks.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office also reported that it has consolidated all missing persons related to Helene. These reports were aggregated from multiple sources, including 211, routine reporting channels and the Register of Deeds, to ensure cases were not duplicated.
