Kane County woman convicted of sexual assault of a child, faces up to 60 years in prison

KANE COUNTY, Ill. – A 37-year-old Kane County woman has been found guilty of sexually abusing a child she lived with and faces up to 60 years in prison.

Maricela Garcia was charged with predatory sexual assault of a child, a class felony

Prosecutors said Garcia sexually assaulted a victim under the age of 13 between May 7 and May 8, 2021. Both the victim and Garcia lived in the same household.

Garcia is scheduled to appear in court again on November 22 at 1:30 p.m. to announce his sentence. She faces a sentence of six to 60 years in prison and must register as a sex offender for life under the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

A judge denied the state’s request to keep Garcia locked up, allowing her to remain in custody until her sentencing.
