Press Forward is awarding $20 million to 205 local U.S. newsrooms to fill information gaps.

News Watch receives a $100,000 national grant

South Dakota News Watch is one of 205 local newsrooms across the country to receive an initial $20 million grant from Press Forward.

The national donor coalition is investing more than $500 million to strengthen local newsrooms, close long-standing gaps in journalistic reporting, advance public policies that expand access to local news, and scale the infrastructure the sector needs to Thriving needed.

News Watch will use the $100,000 over two years to explore opportunities to expand its news coverage in the state, diversify its revenue streams and assist with operational improvements.

Since 2017, the independent nonprofit organization has been providing in-depth stories to both its own readers and its media partners, broadcasters and newspapers. South Dakota News Watch views the grant as a symbolic gesture of national donors investing in the organization and ultimately in the state and its residents.
