Jimmy Carter, 100, casts his vote for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election

Jimmy Carter voted by mail in the 2024 presidential election today, achieving a goal as he continues to receive hospice care and celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the Carter Center confirmed that the former president had cast his vote but did not provide further details.

The ballot was placed in a mailbox at the Sumter County Courthouse near Plains, GA, where he lives.

Jason Carter, his grandson, told ABC News this week that the former president planned to vote for Kamala Harris. Jason Carter said over the summer that his grandfather’s goal was to live long enough to vote for Harris.

Carter’s son, Chip, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that his father “absolutely” voted for Harris. His wife, Becky, dropped off the ballot in the mailbox.

Carter’s three Democratic successors – Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden – campaigned for Harris. Clinton, Obama and Biden attended Ethel Kennedy’s funeral today at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral in Washington.

Carter became the longest-living U.S. president on March 22, 2019, at 94 years old. On October 1st he celebrated his 100th birthday.
