Miami-Dade County tests voting machines ahead of Election Day – NBC 6 South Florida

With less than three weeks left until the November 5 presidential election, you may want to be sure your ballots are counted correctly.

Miami-Dade election center staff planned to check the accuracy of their voting machines Wednesday afternoon with logic and accuracy tests to ensure each voting machine is working.

Miami-Dade Elections Director Christina White explained the process.

“There are so many security measures in place and we test every single voting unit before it is deployed before an election and also at our tabulation center,” she said. “This particular test is a public test to which we invite political candidates.” Parties to get the public to watch this operation so that they too can feel safe. In fact, I often refer to it as a trust test.

White continued, “We have a predetermined outcome on actual ballots with actual voting units, and we do everything from opening the machines to entering the ballots to closing them and retrieving the collected results. And we compare it to the predetermined result,” so at the end we know that the ballot was coded correctly, the equipment is working properly and that the results are verified. This is another way we can demonstrate to the public that we are ready to have their vote counted accurately.”
