Tragic double suicide: IAF flight lieutenant and army captain found dead 250 km apart |

Agra: A military couple – husband and IAF Flight Lieutenant and wife Army captain – supposedly died suicideone in Agra and the other on Tuesday in Delhi. Flt Lt Deen Dayal Deep, 32, was posted at the Kheria Air Base in Agra and his wife, Captain Renu Tanwar, was posted at the Military Hospital in Agra.
Deep, originally from Nalanda district in Bihar, was found hanging in his quarters in Agra by his colleagues, while Captain Tanwar’s body was found in the officers’ mess in Delhi Cantt on Tuesday morning. She had come to Delhi for her mother’s treatment.
The Delhi Police has recovered a suicide note in which the policewoman wrote that she wanted to be cremated along with her husband. However, no suicide note was found in the man’s residence in Agra.
Suraj Kumar Rai, deputy DCP (city), Agra, said they were informed about the incident by officials at the air force station. Police found Dayal hanging from the ceiling fan with a bed sheet.
On Monday evening, Deep had dinner with his colleagues, where he probably “cracked jokes” and chatted with them, station staff told police. He wished them goodnight and returned to his quarters “without showing any signs of distress or worry,” they added.
When Dayal didn’t wake up until late Tuesday, staff broke down the door and found him dead.
Agra ACP Mayank Tiwari said the post-mortem revealed asphyxia as the cause of death. He added that Deep’s family is on the way to Agra and may provide insight into the possible reasons behind his death.
Meanwhile, a senior Delhi Police officer said a preliminary investigation revealed that Captain Tanwar along with her brother Sumit and mother Kaushalya arrived at the guest house at 8 pm on October 14. The captain was from Rajasthan.
Havaldar Dinesh Kumar, posted at Garuda Sharat Officers’ Mess, informed the police about the suicide of an officer. A police team rushed to the mess and found a body hanging from a fan in a room.
“Her mother and brother were at AIIMS when she died by suicide. We later found out about her husband. They had a love marriage,” the Delhi police officer said.
