Scottsbluff man charged with sexual assault

A 31-year-old Scottsbluff man was arrested last week and accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

Charges against Jacob Left Hand were filed Wednesday in Scotts Bluff County Court. Left Hand is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on one count of first-degree sexual assault, a Class II felony. and second-degree trespassing, a Class III misdemeanor.

According to an affidavit, Scottsbluff police were called to the Lakota Lutheran Center on Oct. 19 because a woman reported she had been raped at a home near Eighth or Ninth avenues. Two witnesses told police they saw Left Hand with the victim before the attack.

The woman told police that she spoke to Left Hand in a shed at a home in the area. At first, she said, the two had consensual sex, but then she told Left Hand three times to stop. However, the woman claimed he continued and didn’t let her go. The man then left without saying anything to the woman.

The woman was transported to Regional West Medical Center where a sexual assault evaluation was performed. The examination revealed bruising around the woman’s armpits, which a nurse said may have indicated she was being restrained.

Later that night, police responded to a call in the 1200 block of Third Avenue and cited Left Hand for trespassing. Police transported Left Hand to the police department, where the police affidavit states he was interviewed but indicated he wanted to wait until an attorney was present. He was arrested and booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.
