2024 Heisman Trophy Race

The Heisman race has been on everyone’s lips as the 2024 season is about halfway through, and names like Jalen Milroe and Quinn Ewers seemed like they were poised to be invited to the ceremony before they dropped out of the race due to injuries and surprise retirements . Check out the current frontrunners for the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

Ashton Jeanty – RB (Boise State)

We haven’t seen a Heisman winner from a non-Power 5 school since 1990, but this year could break that streak. Ashton Jeanty was simply unbelievably good as he racked up 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in just 6 games. He averages an absurd 9.9 yards per carry and has rushed for at least 127 yards in every game. Against Oregon, Jeanty had 192 yards with 3 touchdowns and showed he can hang with the best.

Cam Ward – QB (Miami)

It’s been a wild ride for Miami so far this season, but they are 6-0 and ranked No. 6 in the country thanks to the outstanding performance of Cam Ward. The quarterback has thrown 20 touchdown passes for 2,219 yards. He was part of a crazy comeback against Cal on October 5th and was elite in the 38-34 win over Virginia Tech. Ward was great on third downs, averaging 12.2 yards per attempt and a 60.3% conversion rate.

Travis Hunter – WR/CB (Colorado)

Travis Hunter was injured in last week’s loss to Kansas State but is expected to be back on the roster this weekend and the Buffaloes need their star playmaker. Hunter is considered the best player in college football because he is elite on both sides of the ball. Hunter has 587 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns on offense. On defense, he has two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Kurtis Rourke – QB (Indiana)

Kurtis Rourke and Indiana have come out of nowhere to start 6-0 and are tied for the top spot in the Big Ten as they face Oregon. Rourke has thrown 14 touchdowns and has a QBR of 91.9, which ranks second nationally. He was incredibly efficient with just two interceptions in 2024. He’ll get more chances to show he’s serious as Indiana still has games against Michigan and Ohio State.

Dillon Gabriel – QB (Oregon)

(Dillon Gabriel earned a signature win against Ohio State last week.)

While Dillon Gabriel’s stats aren’t great, he picked up a crucial win for Oregon against Ohio State, helping the Ducks secure the Big Ten title. If Oregon is undefeated at the end of the season, you can probably expect a Heisman invitation for Gabriel, who threw for 1,790 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2024. He’ll get plenty more chances to add to his resume with games against Illinois and Michigan.
