Andrew Ross died in Peterhead last year

Two men have gone on trial charged with the stabbing murder of a man in an Aberdeenshire town.

Ethan Carlyle, 22, and Luke Allan, 28, deny murdering Andrew Ross, 52, in Peterhead in February last year.

They allegedly chased Mr Ross down the city’s Ives Road and repeatedly struck him in the head and body with knives.

Mr Carlyle and Mr Allan both pleaded not guilty at the High Court in Aberdeen.

Both men also deny allegations of attacking and seriously injuring another man, Barry Middleton, with a knife.

Mr Allan continues to deny the drug allegations.

Assistant Solicitor Lindsey Dalziel, prosecuting for the Crown, told jurors that police had agreed with the Crown and defense that police found Mr Ross unresponsive and “bleeding profusely” lying on the road.

The court heard resuscitation was attempted but was unsuccessful.

The jury was shown video surveillance of the incident in question.

Det Con Kim Duncan, of Police Scotland, said it showed Mr Ross appeared to have been punched several times by men, both of whom appeared to have an object in their right hand.

She said a man, believed to be Mr Allan, was seen making a “hitting or stabbing motion”.

And she said a man believed to be Mr. Carlyle also began hitting the spot where Mr. Ross lay.

Judge Buchanan told the jury that the case against Mr Carlyle, defended by Gareth Jones KC, and Mr Allan, defended by Brian McConnachie KC, was expected to last around seven days.

The process continues.
