Former tribal police officer found guilty of aggravated child sexual abuse

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A former tribal police officer has been found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

United States Attorney Alison Ramsdell announced that a jury convicted Oscar Hedspeth Sr., 54, of Oglala, of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and abusive sexual contact with a child.

This came following a three-day jury trial in federal court.

The verdict was announced on October 10th.

A federal grand jury indicted Hudspeth in December 2023.

Officials say the teenage victim was a family member.

Hudspeth faces up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
