The photo of 100-year-old Jimmy Carter in line to vote went viral as early voting began in Georgia. He sat in a wheelchair with his mouth open – while people waited to cast their votes. When the photo went viral on social media, people called dragging him out of the house “elder abuse,” “criminal and disgusting,” given his physical and mental condition.
MAGA supporters said the Kamala campaign would now capture Jimmy Carter’s ballot, but recently Jimmy Carter’s grandson said Carter wanted to cast his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Social media users questioned whether Carter was lucid enough to vote. “The Kamala Campaign plans to collect Jimmy Carter’s ballot today at the hospice facility where he is staying. Someone in Carter’s physical and mental condition cannot vote. He doesn’t speak, can’t move and isn’t even aware of being alive. This is criminal and disgusting,” one user wrote.

“Jimmy Carter achieved his goal of living long enough to vote for Kamala Harris. “God bless you, President Carter,” one congratulatory post said.

“Does anyone actually think Jimmy Carter is lucid enough to vote?” another wrote in response to a news article that said Jimmy Carter had fulfilled his final dream. “You don’t even need a heartbeat, this was closer to a real voter than they need,” one post said. One user called it “elder abuse.”
On October 1, Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday and became the first former US president ever to reach the centennial. He began receiving hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, more than 19 months ago.
His family said at the time that Carter was very interested in politics and had high hopes of making it to 100 to vote for his party’s presidential nominee, Kamala Harris. “He was always very politically active, and that hasn’t changed,” said Jill Stuckey, director of the National Park Service’s Jimmy Carter Historic Site and a longtime family friend.
