Shots were fired at occupied homes in Edgewater

DENVER (KDVR) — Edgewater Police reported shots were fired into occupied homes on Tuesday.

Around 2:15 a.m., they received a call about shots fired in the 2200 block of Ames Street.

When Edgewater police arrived at the scene, they found two homes struck by gunfire. None of the residents of the houses were injured in the incident.

Evidence from the area indicates the shots were fired from a rifle and struck front windows and front doors. Video footage from a nearby home showed people fleeing the scene, but no further information about suspects was gathered at this time.

Edgewater Police Chief Eric Sonstegard said the area is not known for its high crime or call volume.

“It is by no means a high crime or high call volume area. It’s certainly an area that our officers drive through quite frequently because it connects our 20th Avenue to our 24th Avenue. So you can see that officers drive down Ames Street quite often, so it’s pretty rare for an incident like this to happen in Edgewater and especially in this area,” Sonstegard told FOX31’s Gabby Easterwood.

Edgewater investigators ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Chad Slaven at 720-763-3024 or [email protected].

They are also asking anyone with home security cameras in the area to review their footage and to contact Slaven or the Edgewater Police Department itself if they find anything near the incident.

“I woke up around 2am last night to a loud banging noise. I mean, I was really shocked; I thought it was a dream. This is not an area where I have seen anything happen. We had no crime. I’ve lived here for a year and I’ve never experienced anything like it,” neighbor Maddy Canney told Easterwood.
