SM Entertainment has terminated its contract with NCT member Taeil after he was accused of sexual assault, the agency said on Wednesday.

“Our contract with Taeil has been terminated as of October 15, 2024,” the agency said in a press release.

“Taeil is currently under investigation for a crime, which gives rise to the termination of his contract as our trust in him as an artist has been severely damaged. The termination was by mutual agreement.”

“We apologize again for all of us being worried about Taeil, who used to be our artist,” the agency added.

According to a news report, Moon, the 30-year-old former NCT member whose real name is Moon Tae-il, was reported to the police for a special quasi-rape. The victim was an intoxicated woman, the report states.

A special type of quasi-rape occurs when two or more people attack a victim together, or when one person sexually assaults another person while carrying a weapon, leaving the victim unable to defend himself.

If found guilty, Moon could be sentenced to more than seven years or life in prison.
