M6 crash: Two children among five dead in Cumbria | UK News

Five people have died, including two children, in a car crash on the M6 ​​in Cumbria.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon on the northbound carriageway not far from the Tebay services, Cumbria Police said. At 4pm officers were called to the accident involving a Skoda and a Toyota.

A man, woman and two children, all from Glasgow, were in the Toyota and were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child in the Toyota was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries.

The driver of the Skoda, a man from Cambridgeshire, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the highway was closed from junctions 36 to 39 following the accident and reopened in the early hours of Tuesday.

The crash also involved Great North rescue helicopters, Northwest Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and volunteer doctors from the Beep Doctors group.

The families of those involved are being supported by specially trained officers, the police said.
