He wrote: “I’m taking part in a charity bike ride today with the Armonico Consort and my old mate Oz Clarke (OBE).”

“But I’m driving because I broke my wrist in a bike accident.”

Shortly after, the star received an outpouring of support from concerned fans who offered congratulations.

One person commented: “I can do the ‘Oh crap!’ hear. Get well soon.”

Another wrote: “That’s great that you’re still taking part.” Charity Take a ride, even if it comes from the car! I hope your wrist heals quickly.

While a third joked: “I thought [Richard] Hammond should be the one to get hurt, but I wish you a speedy recovery, James.”

It comes as James previously revealed the “real reason” behind the end of the popular trio’s time on the Grand Tour.

Speaking to GB News, he admitted his health was a factor, noting: “I won’t really miss the stress because I’m old now and a bit frail compared to back then.” [when we started].”

The finale, titled The Grand Tour: One for the Road, premiered on September 13 and marked the end of James, Jeremy and Richard’s two decades of on-screen collaboration.

The three men began working together on the BBC show Top Gear and continued with it The big tour.

James added: “In the end we got to the point where we said, ‘No, we’ve got to stop while we’re still somewhat ahead.’

“We must not continue until we embarrass ourselves.

“I always said that if it ended tomorrow, which it almost did at one point, I should just be grateful that I had the opportunity to do this.”

The Grand Tour Episode Guide

How many seasons of The Grand Tour are there and where are they set?

The Grand Tour launched on Prime Video in 2016 and quickly became one of the streamer’s biggest hits as presenters Jeremy, 63, James, 60, and Richard, 52, felt it was time to move on from Top Gear to deviate and set off.

They have now brought five epic series of car adventures to the screen, each taking place in different locations and even featuring celebrity guests.

Series 1

  • Series 1 aired from 2016 to 2017 and took the presenters to numerous foreign locations including Jordan, Morocco and Italy.
  • The series consists of 13 episodes, with episodes 7 and 8 forming a two-part special set in Namibia, where the trio took on an epic dune buggy challenge.

Series 2

  • Jeremy, Richard and James returned for more car play in Series 2, traveling around Europe while testing some of their dream vehicles such as the Bugatti Chiron and McLaren 720S.
  • This series, which aired from 2017 to 2018, consists of 11 episodes. It features regular “studio segments” filmed in the team’s permanent tent in the Cotswolds and regularly featured celebrities, with each episode pitting two guests against each other on timed laps.

Series 3

  • In 2019, the presenting trio crossed continents – from North America to South America to Europe and Asia – and put both new vehicles and classic sports cars through their paces.
  • This series was the last to feature the regular studio segments, car reviews and timed laps.
  • To mark the end of this era, the final section of the final episode features a montage of scenes showing the presenters throughout their careers as a trio, not only from this show but also from their time hosting Top Gear.

Series 4

  • This series marked a complete format change for The Grand Tour, as it consists entirely of full-length specials that aired between 2019 and 2021.
  • The first two chronicle Jeremy, Richard and James’ epic adventures across Asia and Africa, while the third and fourth episodes see them put foreign cars to the test in their home country. And fitting American vehicles onto Scottish roads is no easy task.

Series 5

  • The fifth and final season of The Grand Tour follows the same format as Series 4 and also consists of four full-length specials.
  • The first film will be released in 2022 and follows the trio on their journey through Norway, Sweden and Finland in three rally-inspired sports sedans.
  • The second episode was another European adventure, while the third took the presenters back to Africa.
  • The fourth part of the series and final episode of “The Grand Tour” entitled “One for the Road” will premiere on September 13, 2024. It promises to be an emotional experience as the trio sets off on an epic final adventure in Zimbabwe and reflects on their 22-year working relationship and friendship.

“I could have always returned to a normal life and done something responsible and sensible.”

In the meantime, Jeremy Clarkson revealed his own reason for resigning The big tour.

The Clarkson’s Farm star wrote in the Sunday Times: “After 36 years of talking about cars on TV, I’m giving it up because I’m too old and too fat to get involved.” Cars I like and have no interest in driving ones I don’t like.
