Richie – the daughter of music icon Lionel Richie – was concerned about her symptoms and asked her doctor for help.

“I texted her my symptoms and said, ‘I’m really tired, I really don’t feel good, I’m really swollen,'” she said.

She added that she felt “very sick” and distant.

Richie’s doctor sent a nurse to examine Richie, who discovered that she was suffering from very high blood pressure.

“So she sent her wonderful nurse over and my blood pressure was 165 over 103,” she said.

While listening to this podcast, co-host Dr. Thais Aliabadi said Richie suffered from “postpartum preeclampsia.”

Postpartum preeclampsia is a “rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine soon after giving birth.”

It is similar to preeclampsia, which occurs before birth. Postpartum preeclampsia typically occurs within 48 hours of birth, but can also occur up to six weeks or later after birth.

Because it is a rare but very serious condition, Richie immediately went back to the hospital for treatment.

“The hardest thing I ever had to do, in my opinion, was literally leaving my daughter two days after she was born,” she explained.

“My poor husband said, ‘I have to take you to the hospital.’

Richie spent another 24 hours in the hospital for treatment, which she said was “really, really, really hard.”

Dr. Thais Aliabadi continued to emphasize the importance of women listening to their bodies and asking for help if something doesn’t feel right after giving birth.

“As women, we are always dismissed. When we say we’re not feeling well, people say you had a baby, right? I would have said, ‘Well Sofia, you just had a baby, it’s okay, you’re not exhausted.’ “It’s different, not feeling well is completely different than being exhausted.”

“I kept thinking and saying to myself, ‘Okay, you just had a baby, stop complaining, it’s normal,’ and then I thought, ‘No, no, no, something’s wrong, I feel me not well. This is bad.’ “
