The George County Fair is in full swing with food, fun and entertainment

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) – The gates are open at the George County Fair, where fairgoers can enjoy a week of food and fun.

While some took advantage of the typical trade fair experience, many made their way to the children’s ox and pig show, where the young farmers presented their pigs and cows for competition.

George County Communications Director Ken Flanagan said the event is one of the most popular events in the county year after year.

“The people that come here every year come to support the George County 4H and I think that’s a really great thing and a huge blessing to the people that come back year after year,” said Camille Lawrence, a young lady showing off her ox.

After presenting their animals, they were auctioned off, bringing financial gain for their years of work.

The children show that hard work can also be done with other tasks.

“It’s not that hard. You can’t be lazy,” Brantley Havard said. “You have to motivate yourself to get out here, not to play video games, just go out and run around.”

The fair runs through October 19 at the George County Fairgrounds.
