ROSEMOUNT, Minn – Two people, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed in a head-on accident in the South subway on Monday.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a crash on County Road 46 and Biscayne Avenue in Rosemount around 3:30 p.m

According to witness reports, a 15-year-old boy, 2012, was traveling east on County Road 46 when he moved into the westbound lane to pass a tractor-trailer. The sheriff’s office said the area is a transit zone.

A 2014 Lincoln MKX, driven by an 81-year-old man, was traveling in the westbound lane about a quarter mile away. Both drivers entered the northbound lane and collided head-on.

According to the sheriff’s office, both drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Ford was identified as David Rosas of Rosemount. The driver of the Lincoln was identified as Dennis Dahlstrom of Champaign, Illinois.

The passenger in the Lincoln suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office praised “several heroic citizens” who stopped to help the victims before first responders arrived.

The crash is under investigation.
