Bronny James talks about recovering from a major health crisis

Bronny James has spoken about the recovery process after his near-death experience last year.

In a new one Men’s Health In the magazine’s cover story, the 19-year-old explained that he is still working on getting back to his best. “I got my routines back on track to get back to where I was,” he explained. “I had to do breathing exercises and stuff. It was a total reset. I have to keep track of my heart medications and I got my heart pillow.”

“My days are no longer normal,” he added. “I still feel like I’m coming back, I’m getting back to where I was.”

Bronny also addressed the intense scrutiny he receives every time he steps onto the court.

“Everything I’ve been through over the years has prepared me for this,” Bronny explained. “I really think it just has to do with experiencing so much negativity and persevering through it all. I feel like it’s gotten me to the point where, whatever situation is holding me back or that I’m not fighting through, I can maintain my well-being and my belief in myself to keep going.”

“I mean, there might be a few times where I look at something and it makes me mad and I go out and play better, but most of the time it goes in one way and out the other,” he continued.

Last July, Bronny was hospitalized after suffering cardiac arrest during a basketball practice with the University of Southern California team.

Before Bronny was released, his father shared an emotional message of gratitude to LeBron. “I want to thank the countless people who have sent love and prayers to my family,” he wrote on social media. “We feel you and I am so grateful. Everyone is doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. I’ll have more to say when we’re ready, but I wanted to let everyone know how much your support means to all of us!”

Last week a clip from Netflix’s new documentaries, From 5took to the internet and revealed what LeBron and his wife, as well as Bronny’s mother Savannah James, thought about the scary health crisis.

“I think at the end of the day it was just about us supporting each other and just being super grateful for the outcome,” Savannah said, breaking down in tears.

“Say hello to the man upstairs,” LeBron added. “And to the entire coaching staff, training staff and members of this program.”

Last August, Bronny was diagnosed with a severe congenital heart defect that affected both his anatomy and function. After an operation, he was allowed to play again in November. He has since been drafted into the NBA and now plays alongside his father for the Los Angeles Lakers.
